I can place 1 gig ram in the other 3 slots, and all are recognized, but machine runs very slowly, even though it is a 3.4 gig processor.HP says ram must be placed in the first black slot, but it will not recognize same if put there and the machine fails to boot up even though the other 3 gig of ram is recognized when the first slot is not filled.
